WCET2012, Almaty Kazakhstan

The National Engineering Academy of Republic of Kazakhstan (NEARK) hosted the 1st World Congress on Engineering & Technology (WCET2012) from 1 - 3 June 2012. Prof Megat Johari Megat Mohd Noor, Vice President, FEIIC & Secretary General, MySET, Prof Dato' Abang Abdullah Abang Ali Past President, FEIIC & President, MySET, Prof Thamer Ahmed Mohamad & Dr Tinia Ghazaly, MySET members represented Malaysia for the gathering. The official opening of the Congress was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Almaty followed by the main Keynote Paper presented by Prof Dato' Abang Abdullah Abang Ali, MySET President on Sustainable Affordable Housing. A number of technical sessions were conducted during this Congress with themes covering engineering education & accreditation, architecture & building materials, energy, and disasters. The technical sessions were held in the Kazakhstan Agrarian University and Kazakhstan Technical University.

The congress was attended by about 300 delegates including representatives from the International Engineering Academy from Russia. The representatives from Russia raised the point that there are many Muslims in Russia and that the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Islamic Countries should consider organizing its activities in Russia as well. This suggestion was well received and an activity shall be organized in the Muslim region of Russia.

The Malaysian delegation was invited to visit the AlFarabi Kazakhstan State University. In the meeting attended by the Rector, Vice-Rectors and a few Deans it was agreed to initiate academic collaboration between AlFarabi Kazakhstan State University and Universiti Putra Malaysia, with the signing of an MOU. The collaboration shall include joint research and exchange of staff and students.
