FICEER2017, Madinah

Over the years, a strong collaboration between the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Islamic Countries (FEIIC), Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) and the Malaysian Society for Engineering and Technology (MySET) has enabled a successful organization of a series of the International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEE) at Madinah Al-Munawwarah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since 2009. Different themes were featured to reflect recent developments in engineering education, from challenges of globalization, human capital development in the Islamic countries, to the drive for strategic changes.

The biannual tradition continues, and evolved since FICEER2015, the 5th FEIIC International Conference on Engineering Education and Research in 2015 with an expanded scope to cover engineering research besides the education essentials, embracing “Research” to appreciably emphasize the need for Islamic countries to spearhead research in the field of engineering and technology, thus strengthening their bastion of knowledge for national advancement.

This year, FICEER2017 with its theme “Engineering – The Future” features on how engineering grows with new challenging insights from everyday science to the limits of the possible and the frontiers of human endeavor in shaping the world. The fundamentals and education in engineering thus compliment tomorrow’s advances to ensure that an intelligent yet sustainable living could be achieved, without compromising the quality and balance of life.

Engr. Dr. Jamil Bagawi, Board Chairman of Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) and Chairman of FICEER2017 introduced the conference with his welcoming remarks, followed by an opening speech by Prof. Megat Johari Megat Mohd Noor, Joint Chairman of FICEER2017. In addition, Emeritus Prof. Dato’ Abang Abdullah Abang Ali, who was an advisor of SCE, delivered an address entitled “Saudi Council of Engineers – Road to International Recognition”. e highlighted his keen expectation that SCE shall enhance its international role as a modern professional organization, to nurture internationally recognized professional engineers who shall support the vision to turn the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia into a hub for an internationally benchmarked engineering education and training, while ramping up research and innovation and advancing the Kingdom into the 4th industrial revolution age.
